Our primary mission is to deliver professional, courteous and timely service to the community by providing uniform enforcement of the New York State Fire Prevention and Building Code and other laws which protect the health, safety and welfare of the citizens. The primary function is to administer and enforce regulations through the issuance of building permits, which are subject to plan review, inspections and insurance requirements. Our plan reviews and permits include building (structural), plumbing and electrical. All inspectors are New York State certified; their duties are varied and cover a wide range of disciplines. In addition, the department assists residents and developers to understand and comply with ordinances and regulations which affect development. Some of the other issues relating to development which are handled in the department include:

• Zoning issues
• Wetlands
• Flood Plains
• Fire Inspections

The department also issues licenses for Master Plumbers and Master Electricians. We coordinate the Planning Board agenda and applications for both the Planning Board and the Zoning Board of Appeals. One area that has generated many questions is pools 24" to 48" high. Some other common questions asked are here in the Q and A.
