School Tax Relief (STAR) Program Information

All exemption applications must be returned to the Assessor's Office by March 1.

Basic STAR requirements:

  • You must own the property for which you are applying for the exemption
  • The property must be your primary residence

Enhanced STAR requirements:

  • Owner (if property is owned by husband and wife, only one must be 65 years old) must be at least 65 years old
  • You must own the property for which you are applying for the exemption
  • The property must be your primary residence
  • Proof of age and ownership needs to be provided with original application only
  • Income is less than $79,050 (IRA distributions are not included)
  • Enhanced STAR application must be renewed every year

Over 65 – Low Income Exemption

All applications must be filed in the Assessor’s Office by March 1 (of every year). Exemptions must be renewed every year.

Requirements:

  • Owner (if property is owned by husband and wife, only one must be 65 years old) must be at least 65 years old
  • You must own the property for which you are applying for the exemption
  • The property must be your primary residence
  • Proof of age and ownership needs to be provided with original application only
  • Maximum income for this exemption is $25,525
  • Income includes, but not limited to,
    • Social Security (gross)
    • Pensions and Retirement
    • Interest and dividends
    • Interest only on IRA’s or Annuities (distributions are not included)
    • Rental Income
    • Compensation
