Councilman Doucet has a passion for recreation and working with youth. He coached youth hockey for over 10 years and coached the Niagara Wheatfield varsity and junior varsity club hockey teams for 11 years. He also served on the Town of Wheatfield Recreation Commission and as Town BINGO Inspector.
Councilman Doucet is liaison to the Recreation and Building Departments. As Recreation liaison, he has worked to establish summer concerts, and the Halloween, Christmas and Easter parties. He also supported construction of the Senior/Community Center and the Youth Center/Gym. Mr. Doucet has advocated for enhanced topsoil laws, requiring developers to retain 6 inches of topsoil on new subdivision lots. He also fought for the passage of a local law that required larger minimum sizes for new lots in Wheatfield.
Councilman Doucet was also instrumental in the formation of the Town Safety Committee. Through this committee, not only did the Town improve worker safety, but also achieved reductions in workers compensation and other insurance premiums, which reduced costs to the Town.
Gil Doucet is a graduate of Starpoint High School, Alfred State College and Leadership Niagara. He works in the maintenance department at Dupont and is a member of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church. He has been a member of St. Johnsburg Fire Company for over 30 years. He is a member of the Volunteer Firefighter’s Benevolent Association and American Legion Wheatfield Post Sons of the Legion.
Councilman Doucet lives on Ward Road with his wife of over 35 years, Deborah. They are the parents of 4 sons, Gilbert, Paul, Kevin, and Jonathan and have 2 grandchildren.
